The Fun Never Stops at Hollywood Beach

One of Hollywood Beach's most underappreciated qualities is its event calendar. Unlike resort towns that package activities into paid programs, Hollywood Beach's entertainment scene is largely free, locally driven, and genuinely excellent.

Water Sports & Beach Activities

Stand-Up Paddleboarding

Stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) has exploded in popularity along the Hollywood Beach corridor, and for good reason — the calm intracoastal waters on the west side of the barrier island are perfect for beginners, while the Atlantic side offers challenge for experienced paddlers.

The Florida Paddleboarding community organizes group tours and social paddles through the South Florida waterways. Group paddleboard sessions typically launch from Holland Park on the intracoastal — you'll paddle past luxury waterfront homes, spot manatees and dolphins, and return with a new appreciation for Hollywood's water geography.

Surfing

Hollywood Beach isn't the most consistent surf spot in Florida, but when there's swell, the Broadwalk area offers accessible beach breaks for beginners and intermediate surfers. Several Broadwalk surf shops provide lessons for complete beginners — starting on soft-top boards in the shore break.

Kayaking

The intracoastal waterway running directly behind Hollywood Beach offers one of Florida's most beautiful kayaking environments. Paddle through mangrove tunnels, explore Hollywood's waterway channels, and encounter herons, osprey, manatees, and dolphins.

Year-Round Natural Events

Year-Round

Atlantic Sunrise

Hollywood faces due east, delivering some of Florida's most spectacular sunrises. The beach at 7am is magical — near-empty, cooler, with incredible light and dolphins frequently patrolling the surf zone.

May–October

Sea Turtle Nesting Season

Hollywood Beach is an active nesting ground for loggerhead sea turtles. Look for marked nests and, if you're very lucky, a late-evening hatch. According to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Broward County beaches support significant nesting activity each summer.

Spring & Fall

Migratory Bird Watching

Spring and fall migration brings unusual species through South Florida. The Anne Kolb Nature Center in Hollywood offers excellent birding habitat in a mangrove environment.
