Hollywood Beach is one of the easiest beach destinations in Florida to reach, budget-travel, and navigate. Here's the practical information you need to plan a great trip.
Getting to Hollywood Beach
By Air (Best Option)
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) — 10–15 minutes away. Spirit, Frontier, and Southwest have strong budget carrier presence. Often dramatically cheaper than MIA. Lyft/Uber ~$15–20 to Broadwalk, or take BCT Bus Route 1 for $2.
By Train (Budget Option)
Tri-Rail commuter train connects Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach. Hollywood Tri-Rail station is ~5 miles west of the beach — take a local bus or rideshare for the last leg. Best option from Miami without a car.
By Car
I-95 (exit at Hollywood Blvd heading east) or Florida Turnpike. From Miami: ~30–35 min. From Orlando: ~3.5 hours. Parking near the Broadwalk fills quickly — use municipal garages within walking distance.
By Public Transit
Broward County Transit Bus Route 1 runs from FLL to the beach for $2 one-way — a budget traveler's best option. Multiple routes connect the beach to downtown Hollywood and Tri-Rail.
Best Time to Visit
Hollywood Beach is a year-round destination, but each season has its character:
Nov–Apr (High)
Warm dry weather (70–80°F), peak crowds, higher prices, excellent beach conditions. Book early.
May–Jun (Shoulder)
Warm (80–85°F), fewer crowds, good deals, sea turtle nesting season begins.
Jul–Sep (Summer)
Hot & humid (88–92°F), afternoon storms, lowest prices, most authentic local atmosphere.
October (Fall)
Cooling slightly, hurricane season ends, great value, beautiful water temperatures.
According to NOAA, South Florida's ocean water temperature rarely drops below 70°F even in the coolest months, making year-round swimming genuinely comfortable.
What to Pack
- Reef-safe sunscreen — SPF 30+ minimum; Florida is moving toward reef-safe requirements
- Reusable water bottle — hydration is critical in Florida heat
- Flip flops and light layers — the Broadwalk is the benchmark for casual
- Snorkel gear (optional but rewarding) — saves on rentals
- Packable daypack — useful for beach days and day trips
Getting Around Locally
Hollywood Beach is exceptionally walkable and bikeable. The Broadwalk runs the length of the beach. Bike rentals are widely available. For farther destinations, Broward County Transit buses connect the beach to downtown Hollywood, the Tri-Rail station, and other beach communities.
